Growing up in Washington, the bonds of family provided a bridge to the future as an entire national civil rights protest movement unfolded at our doorstep. We traveled for play time between the homes of my mother and her sisters. My cousin Ken and my brother Michael ride on tricycles through the first floor span of this N.W. row house located in the Petworth community. Their immersion in playing while consuming lollipops belie the energies forming some few miles away for the historic march on Washington. We were insulated by the traveling playdates, visits to see our grandmother, and the endless afternoons in Washington.
