Ancestral legacy was developed from a photograph collage I put together seeking to express both joy and pain in the African American community. The choice of images ranging in time periods and emotions are meant to evoke the plumline between African American ancestry and our continuing fight for human rights and human dignity. As a visual consideration of our totality as a people, the iris is placed prominently at the intersection of the composition to symbolize the notion of rebirth and metamorphosis.
