Most of my creative time in studio is done to the sound of classical jazz and other music in my collection. I have long been interested in Monks profoundly original composition work. Developing the composition If Thelonious Were A Still Life allowed me to explore abstraction and nuances in his music. I think Monks work has the capacity to visually relate color and form. The playful tensions between abstraction and realism pay homage to his multi-layered force he brought to performance.
